VIDEO REVIEW

This is a bit of an interesting one. Low budget, but a few “name” actors sprinkled throughout. And a strange bit of musical numbers interspersed throughout that are thankfully much shorter than A Nightmare Before Christmas songs. A bit eclectic. Not bad. The plot of the movie? Probably could’ve used another revision or two.

A group of somewhat mismatched “friends” in an RV on the way to a wedding, some less likable than others. It’s night. They’re lost. A local gas station attendant/mechanic/band member points them to a local Bed and Breakfast to spend the night. The group finds an actual nice two-story home to greet them. Unfortunately they don’t make it through the night without some kind of significant Incident. Sheriff gets involved. Townspeople get involved. The local hootenanny gets involved. It gets... rather involving.

While odd at first, the musical moments almost become better than the plot, with some illustrations to help the narrations. But there is a chainsaw eventually, so there’s some okay kinda gore that builds throughout. Jeffrey Dean Morgan as the local Fuck Y’all kinda sheriff, David Carradine as the B&B caretaker, some others you will recognize. Oz Perkins, son of Anthony “Psycho” Perkins, also plays a significant role. Interesting mechanism to tell a horror story with the tongue-in-cheek kinda of narrative musical interludes. Played mostly straight, it does occasionally veer into the kinda silly side of things. I thought I didn’t like this movie upon first seeing it awhile back. After watching, I don’t think I actually ever saw it but thought I had. Damn. I blame the beerses.

Great Scene: Honestly, nothing major really stands out here except maybe some redneck shotguns and a nice little nod to The Evil Dead series.

Music Notes: The kinda goofy music interludes are probably the best part of this, otherwise it’s a pretty standard low budget horror flick.
