From that director list, you probably guessin this is one of those Anthology kinds of movies, and you’d be right! Those are Always kind of a crapshoot, but at least this one had Rodriguez and Tarantino in the mix, pretty hot properties at the time, breaking out of the independent film scene level. So while anthologies are usually like 1 good one and three crappy ones, this one is a decent one, two decent ones, and a crappy one that at least has some humor and some topless females. I’m trying to say bewbs less, they tell me it’s juvenile. We’ll see how long that lasts. So for the movie itself, kind of a win in the overall Anthology average, even if it is a little...uneven.
Ted the Bellhop. Taking on a new job, I assume, from the intro dialogue. Some excellent unforgettable knowledge passed on from the old guy bellhop who’s DONE. Don’t mess with married couples, keep yer dick in yer pants, aaand a couple other points I already forgot. dammit. Fortunately for Ted, it’s New Years Eve, so a totally normal night on shift.
Overall, pretty good vehicle to combine these four different stories. Tim Roth as the Ted the Bellhop glue to hold it all together does a pretty good job with it. There’s reference to an early film called The Bell Hop in the final segment so maybe that might explain the rather un-normal way Roth acts through the different chapters? He’s either eccentric, flamboyant, tarded, or maybe a nihilist which apparently is exhausting, from what I’ve heard. Regardless the character-type, he does a good job keeping it amusing throughout.
