This movie is worth watching for Rutger Hauer’s performance alone. The cinematography is also way better than it should be for the script here. And even Jennifer Jason Leigh doesn’t suck in this. So, that’s sayin something. Plus, there’s the Soul Man himself, C. Thomas Howell, because his first name is too good to share with us.

Young guy, just drivin the highway. Night. Smokin. Drinkin coffee. Tryin to stay awake. Dawn soon. But he fuckin TIRED. An almost fatal remote highway accident wakes him the fuck up. Then he sees a hitchhiker. Ma always told me never to do this, but shit, what could go wrong? This. Everything about this goes wrong. Or it wouldn’t be a movie. I’ve driven 16 hours straight. That ain’t a movie, it’s almost as boring as an Andy Warhol film. This? This is a movie.

As far as psychopath movies go, this one is ok. Hauer really does elevate it though, a great job as said Hitchhiker. Both menacing and disarming, it’s not a usual set of character traits portrayed this well. I guess Howell does ok with the role too, it’s more of a script issue at hand there. I’m gonna be a bit kinder here as it does have a few good scenes throughout, even if some of the decisions made leading up to them are suspect. But Hauer as the True Antagonist and Cintematographies here are Top Notch.

Great Scene: French Fries, anyone?

Truckstop Notes: This is why you never stay at a truckstop motel. Well, if you’re not a trucker. Then it’s fine, if your cab bunk is getting a bit whiffy and you need to do some laundry an shit.
