VIDEO REVIEW

There’s mindfucks, then there’s this movie. Whole new level. Like, 4th level. Maybe 5. I kinda lost track there towards the end. When you delve into dream world and don’t run into a Snakemonster, I feel that’s a win. Here, it’s a bit murkier. While there are no Dreamscape-like Snakemonsters runnin about here, there is some wicked subconscious shit bandying about. And that can be even deadlier.

The opening sequence, gives you a wtf kinda moment. But then we see that Cobb (DiCaprio) as some kinda next-level corporate espionage kinda dude. And next-level means some weird dream-time interactions. While usually just hired to get information, he gets kinda fucked into doing some next-next-level kinda shit. Inception. Of an idea. Into someone else’s head. Can it be done? Seems like it has a good chance of insanity as a result but fuckit, let’s see how it plays out.

I can see how some people would not particularly enjoy this movie, it’s a bit confusing with the concepts at times, physics is not controlled by magnets, and has not a single dog. But if you get past that, this is a pretty fkn cool delve into the subconscious while using brain thieves as the device. The concept of compressed time folded into that gives it a cooler dimension to it, and makes it a better movie. Not gonna lie, it gets a bit convoluted towards the end, but, fuck man, I’m drinkin here. Still polite enough to make it a fun action movie folded into a psychological fuckery folded into another action movie. That’s, like, 3 movies, in like, only 2 movie’s length of time. So right on, time bending works again! Fuck you, magnets!

This one is a pretty tight movie. Some of the Cobb stuff is a bit droll but necessary, otherwise it’s a pretty good ride from start to finish. The actors are all solid in their roles, good turn by Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Cillian Murphy, Ellen Page and even a decent small role by Tom Berenger, with Tom Hardy in particular doing a fantastic job. There’s always that last scene, though. Leaves you thinkin. But at that point for Cobb, does it matter?

Great Scenes: Fight scene in a gamboling hallway. And repeated pushings over of the sleeping Gorden-Levvit character in a chair.

Great Quote: “You mustn’t be afraid to dream a little bigger, darling” – with a grenade launcher vs rifle
