VIDEO REVIEW

Interesting in that this is a kinda sequel to the Suspiria story, part of the “3 Mothers” trilogy, that was perhaps maybe a title applied a bit later? It contains some of the same story points, the same mythologies. Shit, even some of the same architecture! But that’s all part of the weavings. The weavings of Witches!!!

The book The Three Mothers. It lays out some intriguing conspiracies regarding some particular buildings constructed in Rome, Germany and the U.S. We’ve seen the Germany story. This is the New York one. Rose is intrigued with old books, and this Three Mothers one hooks her. She maybe lets her brother Mark know in a letter, but back then, when letters were written on paper, with “ink”? Pffft! Amazing anything even got communicated backs in thems days. But yeah, smells of witches. Or at least, witch adjacent. Rose, her brother Mark, and a lot of tangential people end up realizing why you should never write a book about Witches. Or their domiciles.

I might have reached my giallo limit with this one, at least for awhile. There’s only so many of the genre one can or should consume in such a short period of time. While the killings may be different, treads a lot of the same paths. The scope opens up a bit here from Suspiria, but still a lot of the same beats under different guises. Bats. Cats. Rats. Fuckit, we’ll kill people with Hats in the next one! Yeah! Other than that kinda hokiness, some nice shots but doesn’t quite achieve the overall style that Suspiria did. Relying more on the story here and still under a lot of saturated red and blue lighting. Which despite not almost entirely taking place in a ballet school, still doesn’t quite achieve a better storyline either. Damn. Probably smart of Argento to let the property lie dormant for 27 years (!) before completing the story with Mother of Tears, addressing the third witch in this here Witchery Trilogy.

Great Scene: Nice atmosphere as Mark’s girlfriend takes a trip to a library. At night. Because that’s the best library time. Cool environment, lighting, set-up of that whole scene.

Bat Notes: Obligatory Bat? Check!

Music Notes: Not as cool as Goblin. Part of the story makes it be kinda classical, but yeah. Not as cool as Goblin.
