As part of the ongoing Nicolas Fkn Cage series here at the DMR, this one is a bit different from many in his catalog. Is it the John Wick of pig movies? Not quite. Less shooting, stabbing, blowing up and fighting. But there is one good fight. Well, if you can call it that. It does leave Cage pretty bloodied, though. The rest is pretty good dramatics just trying to find a pig. I can attest, it is a nice pig, and worth looking for.
Rob (Cage) lives off the grid in the deep back woods. Just a man and his pig. A Punk acquaintance shows up every Thursday in his nice car to collect the valuable truffles Rob and his pig find, drops off supplies for the cabin. There isn’t much for conversation. Rob makes some nice food for himself and the pig, and not seeming to have a shower does not bother the pig one slightest bit. And then something happens. You guessed it, Pig goes missing. Man searches for pig. What’s the pig’s name? You’ll have to watch to find out!
Gotta say, this is a solid drama, with Cage doing a fantastic job as he’s led back into his old life to try and find his truffle-snortin companion. Some heartstrings are played as we find out more about him, his Punk truffles buyer, and the world Cage’s character left behind. The Punk, who’s not really a punk, but kinda, is played well by Alex Wolff (the son from Hereditary). Interesting journey as they both work through some shit.
