VIDEO REVIEW NOW PLAYING POSTER

Starts off with some rap music, just slower and with a country twang. And less bitches and hoes in the lyrics. What we gots here is some beer raystisms! No Coors allowed east of the Mississippi? What kind of fuckeries is that? I’d prefer to stick it to the man for a better beer than Coors, but what the hell, why not? Bootleggin? ...sheeit, that’s just overglorified barleywater there.

There’s Bandit, a wily and not-stupid Burt Reynolds who apparently likes hammocks, driving and money. A cash deal he can’t refuse. His bud, Snowman, not playin a country singer so just drivin a rig here. Frog, runnin from the law? Kinda? And, the Law. Jackie Gleason’s over-the-top scenery-chewin Chasin these bootleggin mofos from Texarkana to the Mighty...somewhere east of there. I’m not quite sure. But it seems kinda far. And they drive it fast! And then stop for burgers. But then drive fast again! And maybe stop to knock boots. But THEN? Drive fast. Again. Basically Cannonball Run, plus semi trucks and beer.

I’m not quite sure why Burt Reynolds was a big star back then, but after watching this, yeah, the dude had his charm, I guess. Sally Fields cute as a button here too, even if she is a grifter with fat calves (Bandit’s words, not mine!). Not saying this is just a giant commercial for Pontiac Firebirds, Coors beer and C.B radios, but there’s worse advertising disguised as medias out there (Transformers, I’m looking at you!). The distance here isn’t that bad when you look at it now, but back then the top speed limit was like 45 mph. Archaic! But it’s a fun ride, puts a smile on your face with the genuinely cornball antics, and almost makes you want to drink a warm Currs from the back of an unrefrigerated semi. Almost.

Great Reference: Do not disrespect that Sheriff Buford T. Justice’s Authoritee! Tay! whatever

Music Notes: Eastbound and Down. Great tune. Let’s just say they get a lot of mileage out of it. (...sorry) But it did inspire at least one TV show. Co-written and performed by the Snowman here himself, Jerry Reed.
