VIDEO REVIEW

Being a drunken movie reviewer, sometimes it’s good to delve into the more serious sides of things, even when it means the consequences of drinkin. A lot. Steve Buscemi? He tries doing his best Bukowski here that’s kinda ok but without really much of the charm. Or the philosophies. He’s not really an ugly drunk. He’s Just, well, a drunk.

For the most part Tommy seems like an okay guy. Likes the drink. Likes the par-tay. But apparently he’s really bad at his chosen profession. And, well, bad at pretty much the majority of other life choices. This is the dramas that play out because of that. It’s not all fun drama, there’s some not-good stuff in the mix, insinuated or otherwise.

While he had a few smaller roles previous, Reservoir Dogs in ‘92 really put Buscemi’s name on the map. Apparently he used that while he could to make this little drama. And it’s a fine drama, for what it is. Life playing out, for the ones where hanging and drinkin at the local bar is the highlight of life. Not being good at your profession? Doesn’t instill much for confidence. Not gonna say this may be the precursor to the Donny character in the Big Lebowski, but in a certain timeline it would make some sense.

Actings Notes: A lot of recognizable actors from the decade doing small parts here. Even Daniel Baldwin, who isn’t the worst Baldwin (or is he? Which jackass was in that Biodome one?), at least he does ok in the role here. Chloe Sevigny is Chloe Sevigny, and even a brief little stint by Samuel L. Jackson, because it is New York or the greater New York City metropolitan area, where Lupacious likes to hang and make a shitload of movies. Overall, a small competent drama about life. Versus those small competent dramas about cheesecakes. Seems like there would be more of those, but there is not. Sad.
