I’m not gonna say this is 1984 in fancy trappings, but it’s kinda like that, with a Brave New World kinda spin but different. If you don’t know what that means, watch the flick. It’s well done, particularly visually. Takes the concept to a bit of an extreme tangent, but fuckit, that’s what sci-fi is alls abouts. Oh shit, and Bradbury. I forgot some Bradbury in this whole mash-up. Yeah! And a bit of John Wick. No particular reason.
In the further future, after the world is almost completely decimated by WWIII, survivors start their new society under a different ruleset. Since it was anger and jealousy and shit that starts wars, just take those out of the equation! Eazy Peazy! An emotionless society is a warless society, problem solved! Just remember to take those injections on a daily basis or the Hate Crime Police will wipe your shit OUT. That Mona Lisa? Burn, you smug bitch! John Preston, an elite Grammaton Cleric who is high-level destructo shooter swordsman blind ninja enforcer? He’s cool with it. At least til he eats that bad taco. Then the explosive shits send him to a new alternate reality of Taco-dom that’s kinda like Mario Brothers, but with Tacos, and changes his entire outlook on tacos.
Except for the Taco part, the rest is pretty much ripped off. I made up the taco part just to not get sued by all the various author family trusts an shit.
After watching another of Wimmer’s films Violet UltraVampire Future or whatever, I’m like, Man! I kinda remember Equilibrium being kinda cool, was it that shitty too? No. No it is not. A fuck tons of derivative stealings to maybe almost the point of plagiarisms, but fuckit, he mashed 3 concepts together to make it, so consider it a parody. Christian Bale is good in this, a bit of continuation of his Patrick Bateman American Psycho character from 2 years prior. But that doesn’t get asses in movie theaters, Action Movies do! And there’s a bit of action to accompany all the dystopian fuckeries going on. And there are a LOT of em here. Wimmer’s no John Woo when it comes to fight sequences though. Sheesh. Gets asses in seats though, soooo good for him.
