VIDEO REVIEW

Interesting look here at an Artificial Intelligence tangent of reality. Our initial basis of machine’s ability to replicate intelligent behavior equivalent to a human was concepted in part by Alan Turing back in 1949. The Turing Test. At what point can an ‘artificial intelligence’ pass as human? Voight-Kampff test is basically another version of this. It’s not a matter of if, but when. That’s kinda what we’re lookin at here as the Now.

Not spending much time on the plot itself. It’s tech-bro Caleb winnin’ the lottery, so to speak. Gets to spend a week with the genius CEO Nathan of a combined Facebook/Google/Twitter/X MegaCorp, which has access to all the people. All the data. What to do with that? Monetize it? Fuck that. And Caleb gets the chance to test what the new product can do. It’s...not as fun as one might think. At least from Caleb’s standpoint.

The A.I thing is a hard question that comes burbling up more and more often these days. SciFi posits the question a lot through the past decades, even before Philip K. Dick started his writins. GenPop doesn’t get too into it though, real life doesn’t care about if it’s aliens or super-computers or Government Entities when you just need to pay rent. As computers became more mainstream, maybe WarGames in 1983 broke a major seal with presenting new potential realities to the masses? The Terminator showed the public a more sinister bent to the equation. The Matrix kicked open the Simulation door. This one shows us a little more of how we may actually break that barrier. Robot Consciousness and Sexuality built in? Both intriguing and frightening as the potential origins unfold.

This was released 10 years ago, as of this writing. While fiction, this is still enough of a kick to the headpan to say, evolution is a bitch, and we might not be on that next train outta the station. This one can be taken in a lot of different ways, from negative trajectory to...really negative trajectory. Great play-out of the premise here. So. Where’s Elon on those Three Laws of Robotics I’ve heard about?

Great Scene: Lab walk-through, and hardware vs wetware concepts laid out.
