VIDEO REVIEW

“The World is indeed comic, but the joke is on mankind.” - H.P. Lovecraft. Allegedly. Awesome if he really did write that, it totally applies here. Banger quote to start the film because, yeah, gotta say, an actual good Lovecraftian horror comedy here. More comedy, but you know what? It’s a damn hard balance, and these guys did a fun job with it. Utilizing the animated comic thing was used perfectly here to fill in the hard production budget issues. And the actors didn’t totally suck. Seriously, pleasantly surprised here.

The world doom clocks be spinning. And in the Northwestern deserts of Egypt, an ancient relic is found, waking a certain something from a sleeping slumber. Back at Miskatonic University, alarm bells are ringing. The only way to deter the next coming Apocalypse is via the bloodline of H.P. Lovecraft, who foresaw it all last time and was able to expel them with his unique power, at least temporarily. Turns out though, the last Lovecraft, Jeff? Not really an ideal Apocalypse fighter. Nor is his buddy Charlie. Or their, uhm, acquaintance Paul. Captain Olaf? He was ready. But damn, things changed, man. Things... changed.

While a low budget endeavor here, this is a very well produced and shot Lovecraftian comedy, hitting all the right geek notes while being true to the source material and making some hilarious fish-rape jokes in the process. Well, hilarious for those not fish-raped. That Captain Olaf? He sailed some stormy seas, fo sho. This has got a few known actors in it, well at least a guy or two from Mike Judge endeavors. Some genuinely funny lines and Lovecraft scenarios, and vicious Deep Ones doing their thing. A good time had by all! Even down to the final scene in someplace snowy. And mountainous. And maddening. Utilizing...twine? Heh.

Great Quote: There’s actually a lot of funny lines here throughout, but those involving a peanut butter whore and (separately) a spicy drink, did emit true laughs. Tragic Scene: Poor fuckin Gary and his fish flake food...just...damn.
