VIDEO REVIEW

This was not bad. Interesting look more on the late-night talkshow scene and a little behind what goes in to put that on, at least in 1977. Then there’s a new angle to it. Told through a pseudo documentary style that allows a couple different angles to the story. Debunker. Worms. Devil. Allegedly. Let’s Prove it!

We see the chaos of the times play out in quick news clips, circa the early 1970s. Protests. Energy Crisis. No Gas. Charles Manson. Tricky Dick. Black Magic. Wait, wha‘choo talkin about, Willis? Presented here is Jack Delroy, new late night television host to hit the airwaves on April 4th, 1971. Always trying to unseat the latenight ratings king Carson, never quite accomplishing it, even despite his, uhm, affiliations? Jack can’t quite ever hit the top. Then his wife . Then he just...slowly slips slowly. down. 1977 though? That Halloween show, start of ratings week? That one is...a real banger!

Overall a pretty unique way to approach the found-footage avenue. It’s been awhile since Blair Witch and maybe those Paranormal ones, I’m sure more since then, they probably suck or else I’d have remembered the titles. Or not. I am drunk, recall can might be some limitsted. With host Jack Delroy and his interesting “Harmless Summer Camp” histories and whatnot, seems kinda cool. Mark Dice may think otherwise, but, y’know. This is the Third film by some Australian brothers. Pretty Low key, well done. Like a cross between Network and The Exorcist, but with less pea soup and needles. Wait. Shit. Needles were The Substance, not Network. Well, premises are still the sa...shit. No they’re not even close. What’s going on here?!? Stupid TV and its stupid manipulatins!

This is a decent dramatic horror kinda thing. Pretty savage climax. There you go.

Theramin Notes: Jack’s Sidekick Gus does have some creepy Halloween instrumentins on a theramin. As Neil Fallon of Clutch would say, “Science!”

Great Quote: “...live communing with the devil, but not before a word from our sponsors.” -well done, tv host. Well done.

Interesting Reference: This incorporates the Church of Abraxas and the name Mandy, so wonder if this that is a nice horror bubble nod to the Nicola Cage facemelter known as Mandy? or it’s just basic occult oddities. I dunno.
