I’m not sure quite what possessed me to review this. It’s like one of those old-timey school films that they would, you know, show in schools. That documentary feel as it explores a certain subject, complete with narration that soothes and informs while also being a bit ridiculous in this situation because the subject is the Fookin’ Fouke Monster!!! (not a Sasquatch...allegedly )
This is the explorations into the ominous hearings and sightings of something in the deep country outside of Foulk, Arkansas, near the border of Texas and Alabama. The swamps in the area hold many a mystery, with the whisperings about the hairy upright beast that is totally not Sasquatch because it has 3 toes and a smaller footprint. Allegedly. Real Life Interviews and scared girls at slumber parties totally support this premise. Totally.
Between the lacksidasical nature shots and weird Hobbit-like song interludes, it’s hard to hold tension of the multiple sightings of the Monster through the greater and lesser creeks of the Fouke region. This might be a prototype to The Blair Witch Project, but, you know, with a giant hairy monster that totally isn’t Sasquatch (but maybe Sasquatch related.) Can’t say I’ve reviewed many G-rated movies here on the DMR, this might be good to freak out your 5-year-olds. Nice nature footage though, I’ll give it that. Do I now believe in the Sulphur River Bottoms Mystery Menace? I dunno, the hairy bastard’s probably dead now, it’s been like 50 years now. Unless he found a willing goat or something. I’ll keep my ears pealed for anything...goaty...just in case.
