VIDEO REVIEW NOW PLAYING POSTER

For alls the talks of the Now, there seems to be relatively little thought to the FUUUUuuutre! Sure, they say the world is gonna go supernova by like 2016 due to “slimate change,” but I guess Al Gore kinda missed the date on that one. Huh! But if he DIDN’T, maybe this would be what plays out. Unfortunately, it was like 1976 when this was made so they only had the budget for 1 robot. I suspect there will be more given our current trajectory with Elon Musk and his yet-to-be-born son, Eldon Tyrell.

23rd Century-ish. They have an exact date, but I’m pretty sure in the between-times the apes destroyed all the calendars, so we’ll just have to take their guesstimated word for it. A domed city, shit’s all pretty cool and seems to actually be going pretty ok. But as the poster with all the words that I totally ignored implies, there’s a catch! There always is. Live a perfect life, but when you hit 30? Well, let’s just say there’s not a lot of 31st birthdays celebrated in this society. Because, ...Logical Balance. [according to the A.I. running the society, of course] . Totally legit. Question it, and the Dome Cops’ll nail ya. With relish. But never ketchup.

As dated as the effects of the past/future times are, this is a pretty solid future kinda story, and the inherit fuckeries that it may bring. What’s the trade-off of a “perfect” balanced society? And always a few of those dastardly subversives that question the narrative, and yearn for something different. Who’s to question what such a removed future society might actually evolve to? Michael York as Logan 5 and a rather bouncy Jenny Agutter in her sheer dress as Jessica 6 help play the story out okay. Some cool audio effects and score throughout give it that retro-futuristic vibe, and the model work ain’t the most realistic, but does a good job with it. Space is easier to fake. Earth? You need to work a lot more on your miniature waterwaves to pull that shit off right!

Great Quote: “We got a runner!” - obviously

Suspect Casting: Farrah Fawcett-Majors. I guess perfect in the timing of the casting given her status of the time. But her acting skills are better left to the posters and pin-ups she is more recognized for. Sad. She coulda been a contender with just a few more acting classes! maybe...
