There’s no real angle here besides wanting to catch this one written by Shane Black. Not a big fan of Geena Davis. She was passable in Fletch, ghosting it in Beeteljuice, kinda annoying in Quick Change. Rest is pretty much forgettable. I never watched the chick-power one by Ridley Scott (of all people). Seems like they were setting her up as the new Action Chick with this and Cutthroat Island pirateisms (which director Harlin did too). Nope. I didn’t buy it, apparently nobody else did either. My, how times have changed. This movie never got my attention when it was released, Basic Spy Action Movie kinda deal. So I had to see for myself. Did the characters have good dialogue, at least?
A chick 8 years into a bout of traumatic Amnesia. A nice rural suburbia Family in the new life. But of course, a good knock to the noggin and things start getting remembered, and sure as shit, back into the old life, with some glitching here and there. Sure. But now she’s basically schizophrenic, like the majority of other women out there. Well, at least the liberal ones. Plenty of actions do in fact follow, so there is that. And a couple of okay lines. But...damn. Geena Davis. Stop telling me she’s attractive. Family Guy nailed it with the line about her tooth-to-gum ratio. Just...nope.
I’m going to say the opening credits is like watching the full trailer of a movie. Not that it shows all the big action points, but it does reveal the major spoiler right up front, which makes it not a spoiler? It doesn’t take too long to figure out what the fuck it going on, but it’s an odd early reveal. What the shit? Maybe they added that to try to make the rest more relatively believable? I dunno. Hard stretch, when you have the ‘outrunning bullets and fire’ tropes readily on hand. Then there is Samuel Lupacious Jackson. Die Hard 3: 1995, SLJ as HeyZeus. Here a year later, his name is Mitch. Same but slightly lesser sidekick character. Snappier dresser though. To his credit, he does sell the character. The rest is pretty standard Hollyweird fare political shitteries, with a few good explosions.
