VIDEO REVIEW

If Rosemary’s Baby and C.H.U.D. aren’t enough incentive to stay the fuck outta New York, this should do it. Damn. That city sucks. Not only does it have driller killers, rapists, barking dogs, and a Garment Center, it smells like rotten milk and piss. Thank you, Abel, for this public service message.

Garment worker Thana, a mute girl working the back-end of the fashion trade. Going home from work one day, she’s...accosted. And if that weren’t bad enough, once back to her apartment? It’s not good. But apparently calling the cops is the worse option, so she, well, does what she’s gots to do. Mostly go internally insane, but there’s other stuff too.

This is Ferrara’s follow-up to The Driller Killer, and it really is the female companion piece to it. It’s not pretty. Well, Thana is kinda attractive in a weird mute wide-eyed kinda way? But Considering how the movie starts, yeah, it’s mental issues gone wrong. Technically a step up, decent shots for the most part, but pacing is a bit slow. This is back in Sleazy New York times, so it is also basically a snapshot of that shitshow, too. Pretty well done overall. Ferrara has three more movies before doing the spectacular King of New York and grueling Bad Lieutenant. I imagine there will be a few more of his films added to the DMR in due time.

Worst Scene: The final one. Dammit!
