VIDEO REVIEW

Is this the one with the bugs? Yes. But it goes deeper than that! It’s got a monkey, too! And Jennifer Connelly, before she got lost in that Labyrinth. And with a Side of gimpy Donald Pleasence.

Young Jennifer is shipped off by her famous dad, while he works his next movie gig, to the European schools in Transylvania Switzerland. That’s what they call it, with all that damned wind and smoked fish and crazy serial killers on the loose killing young women! What are the chances she gets caught up in it? 99.99% The .01% is margin of error. Especially when you consider the gal really has a penchant for sleep walkin and bug-lovin. But Even the flies? Shit’s all outta whack in Transylvania Switzerland.

This is kind of Suspiria + Carrie + Iron Maiden and Motörhead. You’d think it would be a bit more exciting given that combo, buuuut… like Pleasence here, it is a little gimpy. It’s setting up a few different angles. Does take a bit to do so, but also throws in some interesting entomological facts along the way (that’s the bug one). Then there’s the best actor of the film. Inga. I love that monkey. For all the shit that goes down, you will love that monkey, too. Thank you, Inga, for restoring my faith in monkeys that DONT turn out to be demented serial killers. Not really a spoiler, as Inga does witness one of the killings herself. And Dammit. Some of the best acting of the movie there. Sorry, Pleasence. You and Connelly got upstaged by a fuckin monkey. That’s just the way it goes sometimes. Too bad Inga kind of bit Connelly during filming, so bad monkey! BAD!

Great Scene: The talented fly work here is well done. Way better than that Meet the Feebles hackery!

Maggot Notes: If it’s not the bats AND the maggots, well, sheeit, we’ll just settle for a Shitload of creepy crawly maggots, then. The Harbingers of DEATH! It’s the multitudes that get ya!
