Well allfuckinright! We’s gots ourselves a nice little Lovercraftian number here, you say? AND stars Barbara Crampton? Let’s light this tentacled tale up!
Opening is dark and ominous. Nice. Cut to a guy and his preggo wife arriving on a pretty Norwegian-lookin kind of island, goin to a house. Recent inheritance, apparently. Well, the place has some history, don’tcha know. The locals are kinda dicks down at the bar. But the couple decide to stick it out for a bit, at least maybe see what they can do to sell the place before heading back to the U.S. You think they head back? Yeah, it’s...unlikely...they head back.
I gots to say, I am very forgiving when it comes to Cthulhu-associated horror flicks, no matter how suspect. Definitely went into this one with a beer is half full attitude. But...dammit. It’s not that it’s horrible. It’s actually very well done with the visuals and some references and even the acting is mostly quite competent. It’s just maybe so methodically done that it kinda drains most of the tension? Some good nightmare sequences. But damn, even with the ending, just leaves ya a bit...empty. It doesn’t totally suck, but it could have been a lot better.
