Benson & Moorehead, together again! They get back into the main character roles like in The Endless, and take shit in another weird direction. And they continue to walk that odd slightly drama-ish sci-fi/slightly sci-fi-ish drama plank to the inevitable rather confusing conclusion. They, like old Stephen King, tell an interesting-ish story with weird characters, then flip ya the bird on the ending and say “I’m out!”
Decent enough intro to the two main characters; clean slate of new apartment, new neighbor, new weird shit goings on. And not just normal nautilus shell/holy grail/Stonehenge kinda shit, but extra weird kinda shit, but with crystals! So the two guys who don’t really know what they’re doing try to capture the phenomena they are witnessing. Not full Blair Witch Project here, but kinda like the L.A. equivalent, with added Pythagorous Syrums and The Golden Ratio bonus, but it’s more like aluminum beercan-ratio inspired.
I don’t know exactly, on this one. The Story overall has some interesting things to it. Some comedy thrown in on the downlow too, script provides some funny lines if you’re payin attention. It appropriately frames itself into the ‘documentary’ drama after things get going, that affords them a bit more wider scope as it progresses. And like Benson & Moorehead’s previous films, it’s a cool concept and executed well, good visuals and low-key CG FX where utilized, but it’s still kinda like playing 52-card pickup, and realizing at the end you have like 67 cards. I think Sleight of hand trickeries gives ya a good hoodwink here. It’s mostly a pretty cool micro story, it just seems to stuff a few extra unnecessary elements into it instead of a few extra-cool elements into it. Guess it did enough to get them into some Marvel TV gigs though. Good for them. If it helps them hone their talents more, it’s a win-win for everybody.
