Given the strength of The Endless, wanted to see what else these guys did. I think I probably would’ve liked some of the other material they’ve done a little better, but this one ain’t bad. Has some cool fucked up things going on, just wrapped in a romantic drama kinda thing.
Main character Evan is having a bad time of it. His ill mom passes away in front of him, post funeral brawl puts him out of a job and in trouble with the law. So he takes people’s advice, gets outta dodge. Where do people go? Italy, of course! So he has his backpack and meets new people and travels around. Meets a beautiful girl playing simultaneously Easy and Hard to get. He works his charms. Given how things go, he may have just wanted to keep going to Amsterdam with some loudmouthed Australians. But, he sticks around. The chick...does...some other things.
This isn’t terrible. Some cool locations in Italy. Decent enough dialogue that isn’t always complete cheese and some okay character development. It’s just more love story than horror, at least for what I usually watch. But there is some decent horrific effects too, I’ll give them that. Pretty low key, interesting bits of history and science that probably aren’t real worked in as an added bonus. Some cool biologicamorphical shit goin on here!
