Truth be told, this was a total random adventure pick. Doing a theme on television? Fuck, yeah, Here’s a relatively recent flick called Transmission! Looks like an Independent endeavor, weird premise. Who knows, might be like The Void! Well. While it does technically have a Void in it as an actual plotpoint, it doesn’t quite achieve that level of coolness.
While starting out a bit eclectic, apparently as we watch a late-night television, switching between channels, we settle on a documentary by a woman, of her accomplished film director of a grandfather, who disappeared before finishing his last film. But the research he collected for his movies wasn’t exactly normal, so grand daughter Rachel sets out to fill in the missing blanks of footage that should never be seen. Plus, there’s some weird puppets and a few horrible teenage comedy scenes worked in for whatever reason. But that Italian “Endless Path” group does seem to have some weird shit worth lookin into!
It’s an interesting mix here. I can see how they maximized shooting a few different stories of varying production difficulties, combined into one feature length movie via an odd but Videodromey kinda story. Or maybe Even Horizon? Either way, it’s like a good first effort? Unfortunately, it’s like the guy’s 6th feature-length movie. Overall production is pretty good, but Upping the quality of acting may have helped a bit. It definitely has some cool concepts going on, a bit Lovecraftian in nature to boot, but it wasn’t quite gelling with the suspect acting and the random television programs and news segments that pad out the runtime.
