This movie shows the best and worst of one actor known as Nick Cage. TOTALLY not to be confused with one Nicholas Fkn Cage, TOTALLY different people! But maybe at least a little kinda similar.
Down on his luck actor Nick Cage is hoping to audition for a new film that would help revitalize his career. As usual, he goes over the top in an effort to impress. Meanwhile, things with his daughter aren’t going well. Nick has some really familiar problems. And maybe an invisible Nick ego that bullies him. And a daughter that doesn’t particularly like him. And maybe a small drinking problem, but that’s it. Well, besides the money issues. But then an offer to do a birfday party. What? And be a monkey clown? Pays a cool million. Okay, fuckit. And off we go…
Gotta say, even if you don’t like Nicolas Cage or his movies, this one is pretty good. It’s the perfect blend of drama, humor, biography, parody, action and suspense. Eclectic, like Cage himself, and balances everything pretty well. While yes it is a fictional movie, there definitely is a serious side to the realities of being Nicolas Cage here. The fact that he’s complimented on his role in “Croods 2” and is gracious about it? I think that’s real Nicolas there. And even if you aren’t a fan of his movies at all, the overall story is entertaining in its own right, with some genuinely funny lines and scenarios. The fact that it’s Cage just makes it that much better. Honestly an enjoyable watch from start to finish minus a couple eyerolling scenes with some alphabet people, not hard to miss. The rest is everything it’s supposed to be.
