Crime thriller or Crime drama? It’s kinda drama-ey, with a dash of thriller-ish. Solidly done. Some good close-up fightings. A few violent beatings. And a pretty high percentage of crime.
Ohio State Fair. A Priest. Some fkn Clowns. Money. Yeah, there’s a heist imminent, and we get to see it all play out. Competently. Lead guy Parker (Statham), handles it with professionalism. He’s just there for the money, the peoples are not the problem unless they make it a problem, and he lets them know how to not make it a problem. Again, professional. But his most recent partners-in-crimes have some different ideas. Some different...principles. And Dammit! You’d think for as good as Parker is at criming, he’d pick better criming partners. Alas, this seems to be his curse. I guess with that luck, it’s good he’s gotten good at revenging, too! And not letting mortal wounds kill him. That one is kind of key.
Jason Statham has taken on the action guy role with pretty decent legs, and good-enough acting skills that makes him better than that Tatum Channing guy. Channing’s roles in Deadpool 3 and Poopiter Ass-ending really don’t do the guy any favors. But, that’s not a high bar now, is it? Statham seems good enough in the role, but it is literally Parker: The Character, so even with his bad Texas accent there for a bit, they just say fuckit for the rest with his British accent. I guess that’s part of what makes it not as successful as it should have been, maybe? Lopez is good in her role, no qualms there. The Goons are all decently portrayed. Cinematography is decent overall. There’s something that still comes off as just rather standard exposition here though. It’s some okay plottenings, and they try real hard at good character work, it just comes off as a little too cut-and-paste kind of deal. I don’t want to diss it, as it is an okay crime-thriller-drama overall, fine enough for a slightly disengaged watch. Just seems to lack a bit of hot sauce or... something. Damn. Maybe it’s just the victim of home viewing versus in a theater? Or that’s it’s just a slightly better than average story portrayed. Guess that’s better than a slightly worse than average movie playing out.
