Having just watched Point Break, I’m like, yeah, lets do another Surfer movie, plus it’s got Nicolas Fknn Cage in it. Faaantastic! Yeah. Totally different direction here. Go figure. I didn’t expect it to go the Full Freaky Cage movie route. This goes a bit into the freaky sides of things. Go figure.
Cage, aka The Surfer, just wants to take his kid surfing at his old haunt. Been awhile since he’s been back to Australia, but his old family home finally came back on the market and he wants it. Badly. But being back on the old beaches, things have changed a bit. Maybe a lot. And the dreams he had of the old times, not always the nicest of memories. The current way? Maybe not that pleasant either. Overall it just comes off as a bit...hostile.
“Don’t live here, don’t surf here.” Bit of a mantra for this story. They’re like Surf Hippies, but with some of that Boulder Colorado Fascist Hippie vibe, but on water, so yeah, total koontz. Amazing how their free spirits don’t exactly translate to your free spirits. But this goes down a little different kind of a path. A more disturbing one, even a bit...culty? Gets into some odd territory, not exactly pleasant. But the method to the madness does play out. But damn. It’s a pretty fucked up journey, just to surf a few waves.
