Argento getting back into the more true giallo kind of template after his more horror-oriented stints with Suspiria and Inferno. And of course, it is Murder. A lot of murder, actually. Making up for lost giallo time, apparently. Though to be fair, Suspiria and Inferno have a lot of deaths too. So many bodies. And red red bloody fuck you, bloody! Oh, shit, that’s something else. My bad.
Famous author Peter Neal is taking a flight from New York to Rome for a big publicity book tour, his latest novel titled ‘Tenebrae’ is selling well. A sordid killer book, so it’s moving a lot of copies apparently. You get a clue of the sordid part from the opening scene. But then a lot of people around author Neal start dying. The Italian police get involved, trying to sus out the murderer, working with Neal on the clues. But damn, those people? They keep on dyin. A lot.
So who’s the killer? That’s the point, right? To see if you can spot the killer before the final reveal? So many red herrings, so many insinuated to suspect. Obviously I can’t say much more for those who haven’t seen it yet. It does involve a chick reporter blaming the author Neal for being sexist, but that’s just one of those labels some really like to throw around with suspect intentions. But there is a lot of killings here, of both sexes, so there! So if that’s your thing, this is like a cornucopia of killings. And one really asshole dog.
